Planning Your Wedding Around Football Season

Pre-season football has begun, and the regular season is just around the corner. Whether you are a bride that loves football or not, there can be some challenges that you will meet if you are planning a fall wedding.

Between guests, groomsmen, parents of the bride and groom, and bridesmaids you need to know that you cannot please everyone. It simply is impossible to check every schedule for every team, college and pro, and schedule around them so that no one is upset. So while some may gripe about missing their game, here are a few suggestions to help through planning your wedding around football season.

Keep a sense of humor.

Being sensitive to the plight of a football fan who is upset over missing their “big game” is good, but for the most part, you will need to just not let it bother you. Find some good football jokes online and memorize them, or write them on a 3 x 5 cards and pass them out to each table at the reception.

Plan your reception with football in mind.

If you or your groom are football fans, or you know that the majority of your attendants or guests are and you don”t mind, consider having the reception at a sports bar, or tune in the game on a TV at the reception site. It is easy enough to rent a big screen or borrow one from a football fanatic friend.

Plan showers or wedding-related parties at a game.

If you know that your attendants need some football lovin, plan the bridal shower, couple”s shower, bachelor or bachelorette parties at a game, complete with tailgating. If you are truly a diehard fan, you might consider doing this for your reception.

Fuhgettaboutit.

Just don”t worry about it. It is your wedding. If you are not that into football and neither is your spouse-to-be, don””t worry about a thing. Being a bride that considers her attendants and guests is nice, but a bride that worries about what they want is a miserable, unhappy, and ultimately not a fun bride. It””s your day, enjoy your wedding, your guests, your love, and leave the rest to worry about itself.
