The Best Christmas Present (That is Free!)

There is nothing quite like finding the perfect present and watching the one your heart loves discover what you have gotten them. My husband has told me that every bit of effort put into finding the perfect present is all for one thing: that look. The look in your Love”s eyes about 3 seconds after the gift is presented, when expectation, excitement, and wonder fill her senses, her breath catches, her mouth falls open in awe, her eyes fill with tears, and you know you have succeeded in making her feel loved.

The best things in life are free, so the saying goes, and while at times “the perfect gift” may be a bit on the pricey side, more often than not the old axiom holds true. Marriage Gems posted a list of “7 Last Minute (free) Gifts For Your Spouse”. They suggest:

~Write a love letter.

~Schedule a night away with your spouse and trade babysitting with another family for free babysitting.

~Make coupons for things you can provide your spouse with, like massages, doing the dishes, ironing, or coupons for “intimate” services for him.

~Taking the kids off her hands so she can run errands or go for a run, or keeping the kids off of his back after he gets home so he can relax or watch football with friends.

~Vacuuming and washing the car…and I would add making sure the gas tank is full.

~Ask your spouse what would make this the perfect holiday, then do your best to ensure that happens if possible.

~Spend quality time, just the two of you, reconnecting, sipping a warm drink by the fire, driving around looking at Christmas lights, playing a game, having Latte”s at your favorite little coffee house, or cooking together.

Other great free gift ideas are:

~If you are on Facebook, post a love message on your beloved””s wall.

~Write down 20 “getting to know you” questions and ask your partner to answer them.

~Give compliments!

But the best gifts of all? Oren Arnold answers this saying: “Christmas gift suggestions: To your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect.”
