Last week we looked at how to cover up tattoos for your wedding. This week we will be looking at getting a tattoo FOR your wedding!
A wedding ring tattoo is not for everyone – and they certainly are not for the faint of heart, but for some couples, it can be just the right thing. If you are wondering if ink rings might be for you, here are a few things to consider.
- You will want to look for an artist who is well experienced in ring tattoos. They will be the best artists for small designs.
- If you want your rings to be unique, find an artist who designs and draws their own tattoos. Make sure the artist understands that you do not want your design used on anyone else. You ought to be able to keep the only copy of the drawing.
- All tattoos need care, but new tatts are especially vulnerable. It is best to get inked a couple of weeks before or after the wedding so you will be able to enjoy your honeymoon without worry. To have your rings in your wedding photos, get the tattoos beforehand. Always wear sunscreen on your tattoo to keep it from fading.
- When choosing a design, go for one that is simple and dark. The lines of an intricate design can blur together and look fuzzy. Also remember that tattoos on the inside or side of the finger will not last. They will quickly blur, and will eventually wash out completely.
- If you want to see how your ring will look before getting inked permanently, try it out first! Henna is a safe plant dye that lasts a few weeks on your skin. Make sure you do this in plenty of time before hand, though, to ensure the henna is worn off before getting your tattoo.
- Tattoo removal is expensive, painful, and likely to leave large scars. Make absolutely sure you want a wedding ring tattoo before you get one. Remember that hand art is extremely difficult to hide. If you want the option of wearing a traditional ring as well, opt for a thin ring tattoo – one that is easily covered by a wedding ring worn over it.
