A Valentine on the High Seas: The Story of Electra

The yachts that make up the stunning fleet of Electra Cruises are as unique as they are luxurious.  Each exquisite vessel holds her own among Newport Beach’s lovely ladies of the sea, lending her own distinct personality to the weddings and events held aboard her.

The namesake of our elite fleet of yachts, the Electra, boasts of her own romantic history, steeped in Valentine’s Day tradition. Built in 1929, she was crafted by A.W. Leonard, the president of Puget Sound Power and Light of Seattle, for his lovely wife. Electra was presented to Leonard’s wife as a Valentine’s Day present, and so began her rich, colorful life.

Electra’s name means bright, shining one in Greek, and that she is. Designed to weather the rough seas of the Pacific, she had a stint in the Navy during World War II. At war”s end, she was revamped to be a party boat. Still later, this 100-foot classic fantail was lovingly and brilliantly restored to give her all the comfort and amenities of today while retaining the charm, affluence, and romance of her time.

Stained glass skylights, stenciled mahogany beams, creaky yet sturdy wooden steps, an original mahogany and brass Captain’s wheel, and elegantly decorated staterooms give Electra her distinctive charm. Now the pride of the Electra Cruises fleet of wedding yachts, guests can hold the most sacred of ceremonies on the top aft deck, host grand celebrations in her exquisite main salon, stroll her side decks, and lounge on her cushioned foredeck benches.

Today, she is as lovingly presented as she was on that Valentine’s Day in 1929…but this time, she’s all yours. Happy Valentine’s Day!
